"I have made a bridge of my Word, my only begotten Son" ... Dialogue of St. Catherine of Siena
History

The dream for our foundation evolved through a process of discernment regarding our monastic way of life and in response to recent Masters of the Order challenging us to see “what we can do together to think how we might live today the fullness of Dominican life, in response to the grace of the vocation which we have received.” (Fr. Carlos A. Azpiroz Costa, OP.) In this period of the Great Jubilee, celebrating the 800 anniversary of the foundation of the Order of Preachers, we have embarked upon this venture to seize a “Dominican moment” filled with expectation, bridging the past to a future full of hope in the vision and mission of our Order.

We began our foundation on the Solemnity of Christ the King, November 21, 2007 and established ourselves in New Castle, Delaware, in proximity to the newly established St. Albert’s house of our Dominican Brothers in Newark. The welcome of Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli and the local Church community was overwhelming. We continue to receive the same affirmation and support from our present Bishop, W. Francis Malooly.

We are affiliated with our Dominican Monastery of Mary the Queen in New York, having received sponsorship from them and subsequent permission from the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to found our new Caterina Benincasa Dominican Monastery.
