DOMINICAN MONASTIC LIFE IN THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD
Rejoicing in the hope of our calling (Eph 1:18) as Nuns of the Order of Preachers, we have established a Dominican monastic community here in Delaware. Our community is modeled on St. Dominic’s vision when founding Our Lady of Prouilhe: a monastery at the heart of holy preaching. We live near the Dominican Friars who are engaged in campus ministry at Delaware University, thereby collaborating with our Dominican family in carrying out the mission of the Order, as we each, in our own way, share the fruits of contemplation for the salvation of others.
We are fulfilling this role as we:
- Live the mystery of the Church at prayer through her liturgical and contemplative life, welcoming and encouraging participation in our worship.
- Commit ourselves firmly to study as a community observance, exploring opportunities for intellectual exchange as a means of promoting Dominican life and mission.
- Build community by embracing a Dominican spirituality of government so that through the work of the Chapter as the central governing body the dignity of each human person is respected and fostered.
- Incarnate the holy preaching through the life of observance as reflected in the Rule and Constitutions.
In this way we fulfill our calling as nuns of the Order of Preachers, living the charism of Saint Dominic in this present moment of history. In the spirit of a perennial Christian conversion needed in every age, within the framework of our Dominican monastic tradition, we seek innovative ways to engage in the New Evangelization.
